Aaron Ramsdale signs new long-term Arsenal contract
Arsenal have confirmed Aaron Ramsdale has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
The England international joined the Gunners from Sheffield United two years ago and has become one of the Premier League's top goalkeepers during his 76 appearances in all competitions for the north London outfit.
90min previously revealed that Ramsdale had been in talks with Arsenal over extending his contract, with the hope of finalising an agreement by the end of May, and the club have confirmed that the deal is done.
Ramsdale's new Arsenal contract will run until 2026, with the option of an extra year, and he told the club's website: "It's a huge amount of pride, it's something you work for. It doesn't matter if you've been at the club for a month or for four years, you always want to get the next one and push on with the team.
"To get it after two years, I'm buzzing. It just means I can concentrate and keep my head down, and hopefully after a few more years I'll get another one and carry on living the dream at the football club."
Manager Mikel Arteta said: "We're all so happy that Aaron has signed a new contract. The way Aaron has developed over the past two years has been exceptional, with his performances, contribution and overall adaptation to the club.
"It's great that we're continuing to build our future with our biggest talents in our young squad. We’re all looking forward to enjoying many more years of Aaron the player and the person at the football club."
Ramsdale quickly usurped Bernd Leno as the club's starting goalkeeper upon arrival and was a key part of Arsenal's title charge this season, making eye-catching saves regularly and keeping 13 Premier League clean sheets so far.
He has developed at a fast rate at Arsenal, alongside young stars in the making like Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli.
90min understands a new deal for Saka will be confirmed soon, while talks with Odegaard will also also commence soon. However, midfielder Granit Xhaka is expected to depart following a collapse in negotiations.
