AC Milan step up interest in Arsenal's Jakub Kiwior
- AC Milan are keen to sign Kiwior on loan in January
- Rossoneri are currently dealing with a number of injuries in central defence
- Arsenal are open to allowing Kiwior leave on loan in search of more game time
AC Milan are ready to open talks with Arsenal over defender Jakub Kiwior, sources have confirmed to 90min.
Having signed from Serie A side Spezia during the January transfer window, the 23-year-old has featured sporadically during his first 11 months at the Emirates Stadium. So far this season, Kiwior has made just five starts in all competitions - with two of those coming in the Carabao Cup - and hasn't played 90 minutes for the club since their November 1 defeat to West Ham United.
As expected, the defender is keen to garner more regular first-team minutes, and 90min recently reported that Arsenal were open to granting him a loan move away.
Kiwior's potential availability in the upcoming January window has alerted Serie A clubs, with Milan now being reading to open talks over a potential move for the Poland international.
Sources have confirmed that Milan are particularly interested in signing Kiwior on loan with an option to buy him outright in the summer, but would also be happy with an obligation to buy if it is necessary to get a deal over the line.
I Rossoneri have been sparked into action ahead of the transfer window thanks to the serious hamstring injury Malick Thiaw suffered in the recent 3-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.
That injury, along with Pierre Kalulu's patellar tendon issue has left Milan worryingly short of options at centre-back - so short, in fact, that they were forced to play full-back Theo Hernandez as a make-shift centre-half in the weekend win over Frosinone.
90min understands that, while Arsenal are seriously considering allowing Kiwior to leave on loan, they may have to sign another defender in January in order to offset the loss of the Poland international. The Gunners currently have just two fit natural centre-backs on the books aside from Kiwior, with Jurrien Timber set to miss the majority of the 2023/24 campaign thanks to a serious knee injury.
