Africa Cup of Nations 2021 roundup - January 14

After Thursday's AFCON action was full of controversy, things were relatively quieter on Friday.

Sadio Mane's Senegal faced off against Naby Keita's Guinea in a match that Liverpool fans will have kept a keen eye on, while there was a feisty end to Gabon's encounter with Ghana.

Here's your AFCON roundup from January 14.

Group B

Senegal 0-0 Guinea

Senegal and Guinea were not able to follow up on their respective 1-0 wins to open their AFCON 2021 campaigns, playing out a 0-0 draw in Bafoussam.

Morgan Guilavogui missed a golden chance to break the deadlock when slipped through on goal by Ilaix Moriba, but QPR goalkeeper Seny Dieng got down low to deny him.

At the other end, Senegal looked most threatening from set pieces, with PSG defender Abdou Diallo forcing Aly Keita into a full-stretch save from a well-worked corner.

But that was as close as either side came, with both teams moving onto four points after two games and looking good for qualification from the group.

Malawi 2-1 Zimbabwe

Elsewhere in Group B, Zimbabwe have been eliminated after Malawi came from behind to beat the Warriors.

Zimbabwe took the lead towards the end of a dominant first half through Ishmael Wadi, heading Onismor Bhasera's deep cross back across goal and beyond the helpless Ernest Kakhobwe.

But the Flames managed to find a level before the break, with Gabadinho Mhango tapping home from Francisco Madinga's delicious ball right into the heart of the Zimbabwe six-yard box.

And Malawi completed the turnaround just before the hour mark as Mhango secured his brace, capitalising on some confusion in the Zimbabwe defence to nip in and dink the ball beyond Petros Mhari between the sticks.

Group C

Morocco 2-0 Comoros

Morocco secured their passage to the knockout stages with a comfortable 2-0 win over Comoros.

Selim Amallah gave the Atlas Lions an early lead when Comoros failed to clear an Achraf Hakimi cross, with the Standard Liege midfielder keeping his composure and smashing home through a body of last-line defenders.

The group favourites had to wait until the 89th minute to make sure of the three points after Youssef En-Nesyri had missed a second-half penalty, with Amallah turning provider for Zakaria Abdoukhal to maintain Morocco's 100% start to the tournament.

Gabon 1-1 Ghana

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was not able to return for Gabon's 1-1 draw with Ghana after heart problems were uncovered in a recent scan.

The Panthers made the worst possible start in the absence of their talisman when Andre Ayew gave Ghana a first-half lead.

But Gabon were saved by an 88th-minute equaliser from Jim Allevinah before a feisty bout of stoppage time led to the dismissal of Ghana's Benjamin Tetteh.
