MLS is heading into Matchday 8 of 37 this weekend as teams hope to create some separation in the Eastern and Western Conference standings.
Most teams have played seven games so far this season, though the standings are still tightly condensed across both conferences. The NY Red Bulls and Vancouver Whitecaps sit atop their conferences with two and one-point gaps respectively. There are obviously additional eyes in the east considering Inter Miami and Lionel Messi are just two points off the top, but both conferences have delivered in the start to the season. LAFC bounced back after a disappointing loss to the Colorado Rapids with a 2-1 victory over LA Galaxy in El Trafico. Hugo Lloris and company hope to make it two in a row when the Portland Timbers come to town.
Twenty-eight of the 29 MLS teams are slated for action this week with only Nashville FC looking forward to an Apr. 20 clash with Inter Miami.

The reigning MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew looks to pick up its first win since Mar. 16 in all competitions. The Crew has even picked up a red card in three of its last four games. Columbus faces off against Tigres UANL in the Concacaf Champions Cup on Apr. 9 so fans hope advancing to the competition's semi-finals correlates to getting things back on track in the league. The NY Red Bulls have taken over the top spot for the league's Power Rankings, but there's still plenty of soccer to play this year.
