Three positions and eight formations have been either removed or adjusted for EA Sports FC 25 Ultimate Team, as revealed in the latest deep dive.
EA Sports is introducing a number of changes to FC 25 Ultimate Team including the new Player Role system, removing Contracts and more. There are a number of positions and formations that are being removed or adjusted for the next entry which should have a big impact on the meta next year.
Three positions have been removed simplifying squad building, three formations have been removed, and five formations have been adjusted.
CF, LWB and RWB removed from EA Sports FC 25
The following positions have been removed: CF, LWB and RWB. Moving forward, all five-back formations will have LB/RB which will simplify the overall system. It should also improve Draft as a game mode after EA Sports already made the needed change of having players automatically switch to an eligible system this year.
Three formations removed from EA Sports FC 25
The following formations have been removed altogether:
- 4-4-1-1 (other variations of this formation are available)
- 4-3-3 (5)
- 5-2-2-1
The 4-3-3 (5), or most commonly called the False 9 formation, is no longer available to coincide with the removal of the CF position.
Five formations adjusted in EA Sports FC 25
Here are all the adjusted formations:
- 4-3-2-1: The two CF positions have been replaced with CAM slots
- 5-3-2: LWB/RWB replaced with standard LB/RB
- 5-2-3: Same as above
- 5-2-1-2: Same as above
- 3-4-2-1: CF positions replaced with CAM slots
Nothing will change wholesale with the 5-back formations, but certain players will now perform better in those slots given the Player Roles system. Read more on Player Roles here.
What's most interesting to hardcore players is how the 4-3-2-1 will operate now in games. The narrow formation is one of the most popular this year given how players can instruct their team to defend in a 4-4-2 out of possession.
