Angel City FC has parted ways with head coach Freya Coombe, following the 2-1 loss to the Washington Spirit on Saturday night.
Assistant Coach Becki Tweed will act as interim head coach.
LA's NWSL club has underperformed this season, boasting a 2W-6D-3L record. Sitting in the 11th spot out of 12 teams halfway through the campaign, Angel City has dropped five out of their last six matches since a 3–2 victory over the Kansas City Current on May 7.
Her postgame optimism hints that Coombe was taken by surprise.
"I think we’re letting the performances have to speak and the progress that we're making, I think that speaks to the progress we’re making as a squad and our evolution as a squad and getting to understand relationships between players," she said.
"We've had a lot of turnover for whatever reason in terms of inconsistency, in terms of starting 11. I think building in a little bit of consistency is helping and I think the return to health of some players is also going to help bolster that. But I think right now we’re just focusing on the performances that we’re taking."
The British coach arrived at Angel City in 2022 for their inaugural NWSL campaign, after stints with NJ/NY Gotham FC and the reserves team of Women's Championship side Reading F.C. Women.
Angel City is set to face state rivals San Diego Wave FC this weekend without a leader at the helm.
