Anthony Gordon misses training again as Everton & Newcastle negotiate transfer
Anthony Gordon has once again failed to report for Everton training as he seeks to push through a move to Newcastle, 90min understands.
The 21-year-old was given permission for a leave of absence on Tuesday alongside midfielder Amadou Onana. However, since then, Gordon has failed to show up at the club's Finch Farm training facility for two more days while Onana has now returned.
90min sources suggest Everton were happy to let Wednesday's no-show slide but after failing to train again on Thursday and effectively going AWOL, Gordon has now sparked anger within the club.
The Toffees face a battle to keep the England Under-21 international at Goodison Park. Gordon attracted serious interest from the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea during the summer months but managed to fight off those advances.
The latter are still circling the winger, who has seven goals to his name in 51 Premier League appearances over the last two seasons.
However, it's understood the main interest in Gordon is now coming from Newcastle.
Everton initially slapped a £60m price tag on the academy product but with the Magpies unwilling to match that, they've now lowered their expectations to £55m.
Even so, Newcastle's highest bid yet remains at just £40m (£30m + £10m), with the two clubs still locked in talks around the negotiating table.
Despite the need to bring in as much revenue as possible for Gordon, Everton need to decide quickly whether they will stick or twist. The Toffees are 19th in the Premier League table after 20 games and have taken just two points from their last eight games and the need for reinforcements at Goodison Park has never been more urgent.
The club are also still working on finding a replacement for manager Frank Lampard, who was sacked on Monday, with Marcelo Bielsa and Sean Dyche currently the frontrunners.
