Argentina and Croatia H2H record
By Max Parsons
The 2022 World Cup saw Argentina roar to an impressive victory over Croatia in the semi-final.
The two nations are no strangers to one-another, having met six times in the past and regularly at the global showpiece.
Here's the story of their head-to-head history.
Argentina v Croatia H2H record
These two nations have met just six times over the years, with Argentina edging the statistics thanks to their latest victory in 2022.
As a small indicator, however, both of Croatia's victories have come since the turn of the millennium.
La Albiceleste ran out 1-0 winners in the 1998 World Cup group stage (although Croatia did advance to the semi-finals of that tournament while Argentina bowed out in the last eight), four years after the nations played out a 0-0 international friendly draw in their first ever encounter.
Since then, a 2-1 Argentina victory in a 2014 friendly was sandwiched by Croatian triumphs. The first of those came in 2006 in a friendly that ended 3-2 in the Europeans' favour, while the second came at the 2018 World Cup, where eventual finalists Croatia earned a memorable 3-0 victory over the Argentines in the group stage.
In 2022, however, Argentina got some revenge with an impressive 3-0 victory that earned them a spot in the World Cup final.

Argentina v Croatia at major tournaments
As mentioned, the two countries have met three at the World Cup.
1998 saw Mauricio Pineda grab the only strike of the game as La Albiceleste beat the Vetrani to claim top spot in Group H on the group stage's final matchday, and it would be 20 years before they faced off at the World Cup again.
A stunning 3-0 triumph courtesy of second-half goals from Ante Rebic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic sealed Croatian passage into the knockout phase four years ago, before they fell to a 4-2 defeat to France in the final.
Argentina avenged that 3-0 defeat by securing the same scoreline in their favour four years later, as a Lionel Messi penalty and a double from Julian Alvarez sealed the win.
Top scorers in Argentina v Croatia fixtures
A whole host of big-name players have scored on either side of this fixture.
The aforementioned 3-0 Croatian win saw 2018 Ballon d'Or winner Modric get his name on the scoresheet as well as Rakitic, while a young Carlos Tevez netted when the sides met in a friendly in 2006.
Shockingly, however, Lionel Messi is the fixture's top scorer, having bagged three goals. His first came in that 3-2 friendly loss 16 years ago, before he netted his second from the spot to secure a 2-1 comeback win when the nations met for a friendly eight years ago. Another penalty in 2022 followed.
