Arsenal head into the final fortnight of the Premier League season with their title aspirations hanging by a thread.

The Gunners climbed to the top of the Premier League table after the opening game of the season and spent the vast majority of the past nine months looking over their shoulder but may well end the campaign in Manchester City's shadow. Arsenal's 3-0 loss at home to Brighton on Sunday afternoon didn't mathematically seal their fate, but ensured that precious little hope remained.

While juggling participation in three competitions, City could theoretically stumble over the proverbial banana peel. Here's what lies ahead for Arsenal and City ahead of this intriguing season's conclusion.

As recently as the second week of April, Arsenal boasted an eight-point advantage above Manchester City. Yet, a destructive run of goal-laden draws with Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton followed by a 4-1 thrashing in the title showdown at the Etihad put the title firmly back in City's grasp.

Nevertheless, Arsenal's loss to City in February ended a ten-game unbeaten sequence for Arteta's deceptively junior side. The only Premier League club with a squad as young as Arsenal's is the calamitous creche at Southampton, who fell into the Championship with many citing a distinct lack of experience.

Despite recent results going against them, Arsenal's form in front of goal had been as good as ever. The Gunners bounded into Brighton's trip to the Emirates by scoring at least three goals in six consecutive Premier League home games yet were kept off the board on Sunday. Jason Steele became the first goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet while beating Arsenal at the Emirates since Liverpool's Alisson in March 2022.

Arsenal's final away game of the Premier League season sends them to an unhappy hunting ground. On each of the club's past two trips to Nottingham Forest's City Ground, Arsenal have been unceremoniously dumped out of the FA Cup third round. The last time the Gunners won a league game in Nottingham, Martin Keown scored the only goal.

Wolves have proven to be more accommodating opponents in recent years - in fact, Arsenal defeated the Black Country outfit three times in 2022 alone. In a campaign which may not end with Arsenal sitting in the top spot they have occupied for so much of the season, they can at least sign off a superb showing in front of their own fans.

Man City form guide

With a largely routine win over Everton on Sunday, Pep Guardiola had steered Manchester City to an 11th consecutive Premier League victory. The Catalan coach has reached double-digits for top-flight winning runs on five separate occasions. Only three other managers in the history of the competition have achieved such a streak more than once; Jurgen Klopp (three), Sir Alex Ferguson (two), and Arsene Wenger (two).

Nottingham Forest were the last Premier League side to avoid defeat against the reigning champions, forcing City to a 1-1 draw after benefitting from a rare burst of profligate finishing. Across all competitions, Guardiola's side have won 16 of their last 18 matches - with both draws coming away from home in the Champions League.

As City continue to hunt down the European treble, there are at least five more fixtures for Guardiola's side to navigate. City host Real Madrid for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday with the tie finely poised at 1-1. If they can halt the competition's most successful side, City will line up for their second Champions League final in three years on Saturday 10 June.

Before all that, City still have to face Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford in the Premier League before a first-ever Manchester derby in the FA Cup final on the first weekend of June.
