Liverpool will resume their Champions League campaign when they travel to Italian side Atalanta on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klopp has seen his side run out winners in their two previous games in the Champions League. They were forced to work hard to beat Ajax away and Midtjylland at Anfield, winning 1-0 and 2-0 respectively.

These two sides have never faced each other in a competitive fixture and Atalanta will be keen to leave their mark on last year's Premier League winners. Atalanta finished a respectable third in Serie A last season, just five points behind winners Juventus. Their exit from the Champions League last season was a hard one to take, conceding two late goals to PSG to exit at the quarter-final stage.

Team News

Liverpool have no new injury concerns after their 2-1 win over West Ham at the weekend. Nat Phillips had a good game as Joe Gomez's centre-back partner but is ineligible for the Champions League, having been left off their squad list, so Rhys Williams could start.

Klopp suggested on Friday that Thiago could be in contention after missing the last four games and Naby Keita may return to the squad after a positive Covid test and subsequent weeks on the sidelines.

Fabinho is not expected to return to first team action until after the next international break and Joel Matip continues to be a doubt as his patchy fitness continues.

Atalanta's injury list grew even bigger at the weekend with midfielder Hans Hateboer and defender Cristian Romero both substituted in the second half of their game against Crotone.

Rafael Toloi took a knock to his knee and was able to last the full 90 minutes but is a doubt for Tuesday's game. Midfielder Marten de Roon is not expected to be fit for at least another two weeks and will miss out.

Predicted Lineups

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, R. Williams, Gomez, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum; Jota, Firmino, Mane; Salah.

Atalanta: Sportello; Piccini, Palomino, Djimsiti; Sutalo, Mojica, Pasalic, Freuler; Malinovskyi; Gomez, Muriel.

Recent Form

Liverpool have won their opening two games in the Champions League this season and are unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions. The Reds have experimented with their formation recently, with the 4-2-3-1 allowing Klopp to get new signing Diogo Jota into the starting 11 alongside the front three.

Jota has had a great start to life at Anfield, scoring in his last two games, and Phillips' man of the match performance at the weekend will give Klopp confidence in the back up options he has available to him.

Prediction

Liverpool will put up an even greater challenger than either Ajax and Midtjylland. Players like Thiago and Keita returning to the squad could give Klopp fresh legs in midfield and help in breaking down Atalanta's back five.

La Dea's goalscoring prowess is incredible and they are likely to give their depleted guests a tough time, but the Reds should have enough to secure another win in the Champions League.

Prediction: Atalanta 1-2 Liverpool
