Atletico team news

Diego Simeone has a glut of injuries to juggle but may not risk the likes of Geoffrey Kondogbia and Daniel Wass, who returned to training in the week, ahead of a Champions League trip to Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Both Angel Correa (ankle) and Sime Vrsaljko (hip) were lost to injury inside the first half of Atletico's 3-1 away to Betis last Sunday. They join the defensive duo Stefan Savic and Mario Hermoso - both labouring with muscle injuries - in the treatment room.

Club captain Koke is a doubt with a muscular concern of his own while Matheus Cunha nurses a knee injury.

Much like Atletico, Cadiz are expected to be without their top scorer as former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo continues his recovery from a muscle problem.

The injured trio Ruben Alcaraz, Ivan Alejo and Fede San Emeterio have made fewer combined starts (15) than Negredo on his own (16) this season and won't be adding to their paltry tallies in the immediate future.

Atletico vs Cadiz head-to-head record

Cadiz endured a spotty relationship with Spain's top flight, yo-yo-ing between the top two tiers as the '70s bled into the '80s. Nevertheless, it was in this erratic period that Los Piratas enjoyed their best spell against Atletico, winning four of their first seven league meetings.

The odds have swung in Atleti's favour thereafter. Los Rojiblancos have lost just one of their last 20 La Liga meetings with Cadiz. That defeat came in 1989, when Simeone was still a teenager, years before his first spell at Atletico as a player, let alone a manager.

Atletico have never lost a home league game against Cadiz, collecting 37 of a possible 39 points from the Andalusians' visits to the capital.

Atletico vs Cadiz score prediction

Atletico are finally threatening at (tentatively) rediscovering some form as they come into the contest on the back of three consecutive league wins. Simeone's side have conceded just once in that time and thoroughly outplayed Manchester United in the Champions League.

Cadiz are enjoying four unbeaten games of their own. The 18th-placed side have only conceded four more goals than Atletico all season but have notched just 23 in 27 outings at the other end.

Finding the net hasn't been an issue for La Liga's second-top scorers this term and if Atletico can hold firm against Cadiz's limp frontline, Simeone could earn a fourth league win on the spin for the first time since January 2021.

Prediction: Atletico 2-0 Cadiz
