Bayern Munich 1-0 Tigres: Player ratings as Die Roten are crowned Club World Cup winners

Bayern Munich overcame a spirited effort from Mexican side Tigres to be crowned Club World Cup winners with a 1-0 victory in Doha on Thursday evening.

Die Roten thought they'd taken the lead midway through the first half when Joshua Kimmich's arrowed effort found the bottom corner, though their joy was curtailed as a VAR check adjudged Robert Lewandowski to be interfering with play and the goal was somewhat dubiously disallowed for offside.

A suspect playing surface meant quality bits of play were few and far between, and Hansi Flick's side began to grow frustrated as they were unable to find a way past Tigres' rigid backline, though they finally broke the deadlock with an hour on the clock.

After Lewandowski had challenged Tigres goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman, Benjamin Pavard was left with the simple task of slotting into an empty net. The goal was originally ruled out again for offside, though this time VAR came to Bayern's rescue as the decision was overturned and the goal awarded.

Tigres did their best to hit back, though there only ever looked like being one winner as Flick's side were crowned Club World Cup winners.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Manuel Neuer (GK) - 6/10 - Did a great job of sweeping up behind his defence (obviously). Had very little to do on the evening, but when he was called upon he looked as steady as ever.

Benjamin Pavard (RB) - 5/10 - Looked shaky defensively and his attacking play wasn't much better. A number of sloppy touches but in his defence the pitch had begun to resemble a beach by the second half. Redeemed himself by getting on the score sheet but couldn't miss in fairness.

Niklas Sule (CB) - 7/10 - Looked to step into midfield whenever the chance presented itself. A classy performance having been asked to step in for Jerome Boateng.

Lucas Hernandez (CB) - 7/10 - Solid display from the Frenchman. Looked composed throughout and barely put a foot wrong when asked to complete his defensive duties.

Alphonso Davies (LB) - 8/10 - Too fast and too strong for the Tigres right-hand side all evening. A constant outlet down the Bayern left and would have notched himself an assist were it not for some brilliant defending from the opposition.

2. Midfielders

Joshua Kimmich (CM) - 7/10 - Unfortunate not to have handed Bayern the lead after a contentious offside decision. Dictated play from the centre of the pitch, constantly demanding the ball and controlling the pace of the game.

David Alaba (CM) - 6/10 - Stepped into midfield as Thomas Muller was ruled out after testing positive for coronavirus. Was industrious throughout and retained possession well. Solid if not spectacular.

Kingsley Coman (CM) - 6/10 - A busy performance from the Frenchman who did his best to drive his side forward and make things happen. Little to show for his efforts in the end as he was withdrawn in the second half.

3. Forwards

Leroy Sane (RW) - 5/10 - Crashed a thunderous effort against the post just ten minutes before half-time but struggled to impact the game on the whole. Showed a willingness to get involved but it really wasn't the former Manchester City man's night.

Robert Lewandowski (CF) - 5/10 - Unusually wasteful early on and actually caused his side to have a goal chalked off after a VAR check saw him adjudged offside. Had a hand in Pavard's goal but not the kind of display we've become used to. Hooked with 15 minutes to play.

Serge Gnabry (LW) - 5/10 - Began to drop deeper and deeper as the game wore on in a bid to impact proceedings. Put a great shift in as he continued to track his runner all evening but a frustrating outing on the whole.
