Goals from Robert Lewandowski and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting were enough to see Bayern Munich through to the quarter finals of the Champions League as they beat Lazio 2-1 on Wednesday night.

The visitors came out positively and pressed high, but it was Bayern who managed to find the opener after 33 minutes. Leon Goretzka was brought down clumsily in the box from a corner, allowing Lewandowski to convert calmly from 12 yards for his 39th strike of the season.

The Bavarians eventually found a second goal after 73 minutes when a David Alaba pass was met by substitute Choupo-Moting who beautifully lifted the ball over the onrushing Pepe Reina.

Lazio didn't drop their heads, however, and after 82 minutes the Italian side pulled one back through Marco Parolo, who headed in an Andreas Pereira free kick. However, Bayern held on to sail into the quarter finals with an aggregate score of 6-2.

Now, let's get to the Bayern Munich player ratings...

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Alexander Nubel (GK) - 5/10 - Made one good save but couldn't keep the Parolo goal out, although he wasn't helped by weak defending from Javi Martinez - that makes it seven games without a clean sheet for Bayern.

Benjamin Pavard (RB) - 7/10 - Very solid performance by the Frenchman, making five ball recoveries and three clearances, not giving the likes of Mohamed Fares and Joaquin Correa a sniff.

Jerome Boateng (CB) - 6/10 - Was called upon very little, making just one interception and mainly moved the ball along well, achieving a pass accuracy of 96% before being rested for the second half.

David Alaba (CB) - 9/10 - Absolutely brilliant. Made five ball recoveries and a staggering 94 passes, including a lovely assist for Bayern's second after moving up to central midfield.

Lucas Hernandez (LB) - 6/10 - Left a fair bit of space down Bayern's left at times but still had a decent outing, making five tackles throughout.

2. Midfielders

Joshua Kimmich (CM) - 7/10 - Wasn't on the money like he usually is, but still made the Bavarians tick and spread the ball well, making four key passes.

Leon Goretzka (CM) - 7/10 - Another powerful and commanding performance from the German. Made four ball recoveries and maintained a 98% pass accuracy in the engine room.

Thomas Muller (AM) - 5/10 - Captained the side in the absence of Manuel Neuer but had a quiet game, failing to register a single key pass before being hooked off.

3. Forwards

Leroy Sane (RW) - 6/10 - Looked bright and menacing every time he got on the ball and ran at Lazio's back line well, but just failed to capitalise on his opportunities, putting two shots just wide of the mark.

Robert Lewandowski (ST) - 7/10 - A very cool penalty to break the deadlock and desperately unlucky not to see a beauty of a hit nestle into the bottom corner in the second half.

Serge Gnabry (LW) - 6/10 - Fairly absent overall but drifted inside well, providing some nice link up play at times and led his side's' press, making two ball recoveries.

4. Substitutes

Niklas Sule (CB) - 6/10 - A solid enough second half, not being troubled too much. Made a couple of interceptions and did the simple things well.

Alphonso Davies (LB) - 7/10 - Provided some much needed width on the left for Bayern and injected a spark in their build up play with his ridiculous pace.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (ST) - 7/10 - Bagged a lovely goal two minutes after his introduction.

Jamal Musiala (AM) - 6/10

Javi Martinez (CM) - N/A
