Bayern Munich director responds to rumoured Zinedine Zidane interest
- Max Eberl has given an update on Bayern's search for a new manager
- Zinedine Zidane has been linked with the post in recent weeks
- Current head coach Thomas Tuchel is set to leave this summer
Bayern Munich director Max Eberl has provided an update on the club's search for a new manager after links with Zinedine Zidane emerged.
The Bundesliga giants confirmed that current boss Thomas Tuchel will leave the club during the summer, following a season in which Bayern lost their 11-year grip on the league title - Bayer Leverkusen wrapped up this season's title with a win over Werder Bremen last weekend.
Since said news broke, a number of top coaches have been linked with the job at the Allianz Arena. Ex-manager Julian Nagelsmann had been believed to be the frontrunner, however the German national team confirmed that he'll be staying on with the Die Mannschaft until the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Along with Nagelsmann, legendary coach and Ballon d'Or winning-player Zidane has also been of rumoured interest to FC Hollywood, with the former Real Madrid manager being out of work since he left Los Blancos for a second time in 2021.
Giving an update on Bayern's search for a new first-team manager, club director Eberl told Sky Germany: "I've already said that we would ideally have a new coach at the end of April. But if it takes a little longer, then it takes a little longer.
"I know that time is running out. It is also our intention that we want to do it quickly, but we still want to do it as cleanly and as thoroughly as necessary.
"We are now very, very final and will hopefully be able to announce something soon."
Eberl also said that he prefers the new manager to be able to speak both German and English, replying that he "doesn't know" if Zidane fits this remit.
Bayern aren't the only club with reported interest in Zidane's services. Manchester United and Juventus have also both been linked with a move for the French footballing legend, with reports claiming that Zidane is in fact keeping an eye on the managerial situation at the former as he weigh up his options.
