Bayern Munich fear Real Madrid approach for Alphonso Davies
- Davies has less than two years remaining on Bayern Munich contract
- The Canadian international widely regarded as one of the best wing-backs in world football
- Real Madrid looking to bolster their left-sided options and Davies is their top target
Bayern Munich fear that Real Madrid have Alphonso Davies lined up for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2024, 90min understands.
The transfer limelight in the Spanish capital is expected to be dominated by forward incomings over the next months, with a deal for Kylian Mbappe set to accelerate and Palmeiras teenager Endrick due to arrive in the summer, but the 14-time Champions League winners are also keen to strengthen their backline.
Left-back is an area the club particularly want to work on, even though manager Carlo Ancelotti has a number of options currently at his disposal, and 90min understands that Madrid have identified Davies as their top target.
The 23-year-old has less than two years remaining on his Bayern contract and he has been willing to open talks over an extension. But the Canadian international wants a salary befitting of his status as arguably the best left-back/wing-back in the world and such an offer has not yet been tabled by the Bundesliga giants.
Madrid have Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia as their natural options at left-back, while David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga are more than capable of filling in but are more suited to playing in central defence and central midfield respectively.
But sources have told 90min that Madrid are willing to move Mendy on next summer in order to facilitate a move for Davies, who by that point will only have a year left to run on his Bayern contract if he does not agree fresh terms.
Garcia, who rejoined the club from Rayo Vallecano last summer, is seen as an important squad member moving forward, and is notably four years younger than Mendy, who has struggled with injuries during his five-year stint in Madrid.
Work is already being done in the background over a potential deal for Davies, who was part of the Bayern side shocked by third-tier Saarbrucken in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday night.
90min also understands that Madrid are busy identifying targets to eventually replace Dani Carvajal on the opposite flank, although there's a belief that the Spain international can continue playing at the highest level for at least another couple of years.
Madrid are fans of Girona youngster Arnau Martinez, as 90min previously revealed, and are also monitoring Chelsea captain Reece James and emerging Monaco star Vanderson.
