Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic has tested positive for coronavirus and will now isolate at home away from the rest of the squad.

Bayern have confirmed that Stanisic is fully vaccinated and is not feeling unwell.

The 21-year-old full-back has established himself in Bayern’s first-team squad this season after making his senior debut in April – he had joined the youth ranks aged 16 in early 2017.

Stanisic has made 12 first-team appearances in all competitions this campaign, including four starts in the Bundesliga – both at left-back and right-back. He has also at least been on the bench for every single first-team game throughout the season so far.

The player’s positive test will rule him out of Bayern’s return to club action against Augsburg on Friday. Depending on exactly when his isolation began, he is also unlikely to play for the rest of the month, with further Bayern games against Dynamo Kyiv and Arminia Bielefeld coming up.

Bayern are in cruise control in the Bundesliga this season, winning their last four games in a row since a shock defeat at home to Eintracht Frankfurt last month.

They have also been going well in the Champions League, winning each of their first four games and already qualifying for the last 16 of the competition, scoring 17 goals in the process.
