Bayern Munich still keen on Kieran Trippier despite Newcastle rejecting two bids
- Newcastle have knocked back two bids from Bayern Munich for Kieran Trippier
- German champions also in talks with PSG over Nordi Mukiele
- Miguel Almiron could leave St James' Park before transfer deadline
Bayern Munich have seen a second €15m bid Newcastle United's Kieran Trippier rejected but they haven't given up hope of signing him this month, despite also pushing for Paris Saint-Germain’s Nordi Mukiele, 90min understands.
Surprise initial transfer links with Trippier emerged in recent days and the Englishman has been open to the idea - he has already had one successful spell abroad in his career, winning La Liga with Atletico Madrid. But the 33-year-old is equally not pushing in any aggressive sense to leave St James' Park and will respect the club's decision rather than attempt to force his way out.
90min understands Newcastle are extremely reluctant to sell Trippier, who has worn the captain's armband numerous times since his 2022 arrival. Not only do the club want to keep one of their most influential players, but it's also understood they feel even in a best-case scenario they won't get more than €25m for him. Even that number is pretty optimistic given Bayern's latest rejected offer was ten million less.
In contrast, Miguel Almiron, who is available for the right offer, and has had firm interest from Saudi side Al-Shabab, could comfortably command that fee, and is a player Newcastle are far more willing to let leave under the right financial conditions.
Should Trippier somehow depart, there would be added pressure on Tino Livramento. He has been outstanding since joining from Southampton, but is still young and developing, and should Newcastle spend late in the window, it is still more likely they would bring in a midfielder rather than another experienced full-back.
Bayern haven't given up on signing Trippier, but have had no encouragement from Newcastle to date. It was the same with Tottenham in the earlier stages of their Harry Kane pursuit, but there was far more time to work with during last summer's window.
Bayern may still instead push ahead with a loan deal for Mukiele, who has always been a priority target as well. They still believe a deal with PSG might be possible before the transfer deadline next week.
PSG have proven tough negotiators having signed the 21-year-old for up to €16m from RB Leipzig in 2022, but Mukiele wants to move. Talks between the clubs over the finer details of a loan, including the financial conditions involved, are continuing.
After a breakout 18 months at Montpellier following his emergence with little-known Laval in Ligue 2, Mukiele was poached by RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018. He made 146 appearances for the club before returning to France with PSG 18 months ago, but has struggled to dislodge Achraf Hakimi from the team. Indeed, he hasn't started a single Ligue 1 game at right-back this season, filling in on the left for a run of games in November.
Bayern still feel a deal for either Trippier or Mukiele is possible in the next week, but with Trippier it's going to require a bigger offer and a big U-turn from Newcastle's clear 'not for sale' stance.
