Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has admitted the club are in active talks with Alphonso Davies about his future amid transfer interest from Real Madrid.
Davies' current deal at the Allianz Arena expires in 2025, and The Athletic recently reported he has verbally agreed to join Madrid either this summer or next. The plan is to bring in the left-back ahead of the 2024/25 season, but if a fee can't be agreed with Bayern, then Madrid will simply sign him on a free transfer the following year.
However, Bayern have made it clear they do not want to lose Davies for nothing and they are hoping to either tie him down to a new deal or make a sale this summer.
Bayern confirmed the appointment of the highly-rated Max Eberl as their new director of sport this week, and CEO Dreesen has revealed the club could make another push to extend Davies' contract.
"In Alphonso we have a player who has developed excellently on the left wing, not only because of his speed, but also because of his character and his directness in recent years," Dreesen said.
"We are talking to his agent [about his future]. We will see how complicated it is. Max Eberl will now intervene in the contract. Christoph [Freund, sporting director] has already spoken about it. But a part of the rebuilding the squad and the additions is about looking at the big picture, and that depends on how both Max and Christoph see the future."
At his unveiling this week, Eberl said of Davies: "Jan-Christian and Christoph have had discussions. I will try to continue the conversation. No club wants to lose players for free. I have to see how the situation is."
