Benjamin Pavard completes transfer to Inter
- Benjamin Pavard is officially now an Inter player
- Defender left Bayern Munich for a new challenge
- Man Utd had been interested in a transfer
Inter have completed the signing of Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, who was until recently the subject of talks with Manchester United.
Pavard has signed a five-year contract at San Siro until the summer of 2028.
The Frenchman had appeared on a list of Manchester United targets to strengthen defensively on the premise that former captain Harry Maguire would be leaving the club. Talks between Bayern the Premier League took place, but no agreement over price could be reached, while the collapse of Maguire’s proposed exit to West Ham fully derailed any chance of striking a deal.
Subsequently, Bayern agreed to sell to Inter for €33m (£28m), which is substantially less than the €40m (£34.5m) plus add-ons that Manchester United had been quoted.
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed this week that Inter was Pavard’s preferred destination.

"Inter are a winning club. I play football to win, that's why I decided to come to Inter," the 27-year-old World Cup winner said in his first interview with InterTV.
"I want to win the Scudetto in order to fix the second star on the Inter shirt. I live to win trophies, and this is important for the fans and for the whole club. I will do everything I can to win as many titles as possible. There are world famous players in the team who will help us achieve them."
Discussing his own game, Pavard added: "The most important quality for a defender is to defend carefully, win as many tackles as possible and be decisive. Scoring and assisting are pluses, the most important thing for a defender is...to defend."
