Benjamin Sesko: Man Utd and Newcastle target could be available in January
- Intermediaries have contacted clubs claiming Sesko could move
- RB Leipzig signed Slovenian striker in the summer from sister club Salzburg
- Man Utd and Newcastle among host of Premier League admirers
Manchester United, Newcastle United and other Premier League teams have been told that Benjamin Sesko could be available in the January transfer window, 90min understands.
The 20-year-old is widely regarded as one of Europe's brightest young striker prospects, and was on the radar of a number of leading clubs prior to joining RB Leipzig in the summer.
Man Utd and Newcastle are among those who have been tracking Sesko since he was a teenager, but a move to Leipzig from sister club RB Salzburg was agreed last summer.
The Slovenian completed the switch in July, penning a five-year contract at Leipzig, but he's yet to command a regular place in the first team. Indeed, Sesko has started only twice in the Bundesliga so far, and has instead played second fiddle to Lois Openda, who hopped over to Germany after scoring 21 goals for Lens in Ligue 1.
Sesko has scored three goals in the league, including a brace against Union Berlin, and has also been in good form for Slovenia during Euro 2024 qualifying.
90min understands that intermediaries have contacted a host of clubs stating that Sesko could be available in the new year, and sources have confirmed that he would not be short of interest if that turns out to be the case.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been spoken to, in addition to United and Newcastle, but it remains to be seen whether Leipzig would be willing to entertain a deal for Sesko at this stage.
90min previously revealed that Leipzig were to open to immediately selling Sesko if they were able to double the £20m fee they paid to Salzburg - a discounted price that was not on offer to any of Europe's top brass.
AC Milan were also interested in signing Sesko in the summer, with his agent Elvis Basanovic confirming recently to SportItalia that he'd spoken to the Rossoneri over a potential move.
“I can confirm that I spoke with Milan in the past about Sesko when Maldini was there. However in that moment a transfer wasn’t possible, it was not the right time," he said. "You never know in the future, Milan is a big club. Sesko feels very good now at Leipzig where he continues to grow."
