Bernardo Silva has ended speculation over his future by signing a new three-year contract at Manchester City.

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have been long-term admirers of the 28-year-old playmaker and hoped to lure him away from Manchester after the club ended their quest for a first Champions League trophy last season.

Silva played a significant role in City's success, scoring a brace against Real Madrid in the romping 4-0 semi-final first leg win, and his importance to Pep Guardiola's side has been reinforced by the Spaniard's desire for him to stay put.

He had been considering his options, but 90min revealed last Friday that City were confident of committing him to a new contract. And the Premier League champions have now confirmed Silva has put pen to paper, extending his lengthy stay at the club until 2026.

"I've had six incredible years at Manchester City and I'm delighted to extend my time here," Silva told City's official website. "Winning the Treble last season was extremely special and it's exciting to be part of a squad where there is such a hunger and passion.

"Success makes you want even more, and this club gives me that opportunity to keep on winning. I love the manager, my team-mates and the fans and hope we can share even more great memories in the coming years."

City's director of football, Txiki Begiristain, added of his new deal: "Bernardo has been exceptional during his time at the Etihad, so we're delighted that he has signed a contract extension with the club.

"His quality and technical ability is fantastic - and alongside his hard work and professionalism, he has become one of the best players in the world. Bernardo was so important in our Treble-winning season and we are sure he can help deliver even more trophies in the next few years."
