Biggest Man Utd defeats following 7-0 thrashing by Liverpool
There are few clubs that have won the amount of honours as Manchester United, especially in the modern era, although there have been a surprising amount of heavy defeats along the way too.
The heaviest of which came all the way back in 1953 when Wolves beat them 8-1. That was another time, though.
They also lost 7-1 to Burnley in the FA Cup in 1901, and Sporting CP beat them 5-0 in the European Cup back in 1964.
The Champions League has been a little kinder to Man Utd, with a 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in the 1994/95 season as bad as it has got.
Surprisingly, the Premier League is another story, and they have had to endure some real batterings over the years.
Biggest Man Utd Premier League defeats
6. Newcastle 5-0 Man Utd (1996)
The battles between Newcastle and Man Utd in the mid-1990s were iconic, although in terms of trophies they were always won by the Red Devils.
Newcastle had their moment, though, when they thrashed Man Utd at St. James’ Park in a game that featured Philippe Albert’s memorable chip. You know the one.
5. Chelsea 5-0 Man Utd (1999)
Man Utd had another five-star humiliation at Stamford Bridge just three years on from that Newcastle humbling.
Chelsea scored in the first minute through Gus Poyet, the first of two goals for the Uruguayan, and it never really improved from there for the Red Devils as they'd concede a further four.
4. Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool (2021)
Much as it will pain Man Utd fans, they are no strangers to being thrashed by Liverpool.
It happened in their own back yard of Old Trafford in 2021 with Mo Salah running riot with a hat-trick.
3. Man Utd 1-6 Man City (2011)
Man Utd used to have it all their own way against their noisey neighbours, but in 2011 the Citizens proved things were changing.
In fairness, though, three goals from the 89th-minute on gave the result a gloss that perhaps did not reflect the game itself on that occasion.
2. Man Utd 1-6 Tottenham (2020)
The only real saving grace in this one from a Man Utd point of view was that there were no fans inside Old Trafford to see it.
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min grabbed a brace each in a remarkable game that actually saw Man Utd take a first minute lead.
1. Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd (2023)
Man Utd's utter demolition at the hands of Liverpool was their biggest - and probably most humbling - Premier League defeat.
It felt like they were in the game when they went in at half-time just 1-0 down, but a total capitulation after the break saw them completely humiliated at Anfield in a result that will go down in infamy for Man Utd fans.
