Bayern Munich sent a message to the rest of the Bundesliga with an emphatic 4-0 victory away at Borussia Dortmund.
Early goals from Dayot Upamecano and Harry Kane put Bayern 2-0 up inside the opening nine minutes, capitalising on some woeful defending from the hosts to put themselves out of reach before some fans had even found their seats.
Dortmund grew into proceedings in the second half but couldn't find a way through Bayern, who held firm and added another through Kane to kill off any threat of an upset.
Kane completed his hat-trick in stoppage time, firing himself to the top of the Bundesliga scoring charts in the process.
How the game unfolded
It took Bayern just three minutes to get themselves ahead. Upamecano rose highest from a corner, sweeping away from Nico Schlotterbeck and powering the ball into the back of the Dortmund net.
Kingsley Coman fired over soon after but Bayern doubled their lead in the ninth minute. Leroy Sane selflessly squared the ball to Kane, who tapped the ball home for his first Klassiker goal.
Dortmund managed to stop the bleeding and looked somewhat lively going forwards, although Bayern's rearguard held firm and rarely appeared under any real pressure in the opening 30 minutes.
On the stroke of half-time, Donyell Malen had the opportunity to bend the ball into Manuel Neuer's far post but couldn't keep his effort down as Dortmund ended the first half without a single shot on target.
Just 30 seconds into the second half, Gregor Kobel was needed to save from Jamal Musiala, who should have done better when played through one-on-one.
Musiala had the ball in the back of the net seconds later but the offside flag was correctly raised after the official spotted Kane drifting beyond the last defender earlier in the move.
Marco Reus stung the gloves of Manuel Neuer with Dortmund's first shot on target 55 minutes in, while Kobel had to deny Musiala once again, as the hosts started to grow into the game and ask questions of Bayern's defence.
Another Musiala goal was ruled out for offside after Kane had strayed once again, with Bayern repeatedly punishing the high line of defence that Dortmund were taking to try and battle their way back into proceedings, but Kane beat the offside trap almost straight after and drilled home his second of the game with 17 minutes to go.
Kane's second knocked the wind out of Dortmund, but there was still time for the England international to fire home his third in the dying embers to cap off a delightful performance from Bayern.
Borussia Dortmund player ratings (4-2-3-1)
GK: Gregor Kobel - 6/10 - Received no help from those in front of them. Cannot be blamed for this result.
RB: Marius Wolf - 5/10 - Worked incredibly hard but stood no chance up against the combination of Sane and Davies. Needed more help.
CB: Mats Hummels - 4/10 - His lack of pace was a major problem as Bayern's electric forwards fizzed past him constantly. Lost his focus for the second goal.
CB: Nico Schlotterbeck - 2/10 - Upamecano didn't even need to jump to beat him to the first goal. Schlotterbeck even smiled at the Frenchman before the corner. Lazy, humiliating defending.
LB: Julian Ryerson - 5/10 - Uncomfortable on the ball as Dortmund tried to play out from the back.
DM: Salih Ozcan - 1/10 - Felt like he did nearly everything wrong. Ozcan lost the ball for the second goal and appeared to misplace every pass, starting the second half just as poorly as he ended the first.
DM: Marcel Sabitzer - 3/10 - Offered very little. Really poor movement for the second goal but was largely anonymous throughout.
RM: Marco Reus - 5/10 - Can't fault the work rate. Reus was clearly determined to try and drag Dortmund back into the game but got very little change from Bayern's defence.
AM: Julian Brandt - 4/10 - Buzzed around without actually offering much. Found space incredibly hard to come by.
LM: Donyell Malen - 5/10 - Like Reus, Malen clearly battled to try and make something happen but he just couldn't get things going.
ST: Niclas Fullkrug - 5/10 - Put himself about but was never likely to make a real impact.

Edin Terzic - 2/10 - Questions have to be asked about Dortmund's preparations considering their atrocious start to the game. Bayern could have easily won this by six or seven, which is simply not good enough.
Bayern Munich player ratings (4-2-3-1)
GK: Manuel Neuer - 6/10 - A spectator for the first 55 minutes before Neuer needed to make a nice save to deny Reus.
RB: Noussair Mazraoui - 6/10 - Happily repelled Dortmund's wingers for the most part although he was occasionally caught out of place.
CB: Dayot Upamecano - 7/10 - Bagged his goal early on and continued to knock Dortmund back whenever they came forward. A truly imposing performance despite being an injury doubt heading into the game.
CB: Kim Min-jae - 6/10 - A little uncertain bringing the ball out from the back but didn't really do much wrong.
LB: Alphonso Davies - 6/10 - His forward runs created plenty of problems. Davies' end product wasn't always there but his presence alone was enough to mess with Dortmund.
DM: Konrad Laimer - 8/10 - Quietly excellent. His pressing proved too much for Ozcan and Sabitzer, who simply couldn't match his intensity.
DM: Leon Goretzka - 7/10 - Similarly impressive as Laimer. Offered more going forward in the first half and played a huge role in the second goal before being needed back in defence for most of the second half.
RM: Kingsley Coman - 7/10 - Coman wasn't always a threat but his perfectly timed pass ensured Kane could add the third goal.
AM: Jamal Musiala - 7/10 - Danced around in the first half as Bayern took control of proceedings. Saw two goals ruled out for offside although neither was actually his fault.
LM: Leroy Sane - 8/10 - With two assists in nine minutes, Sane did his work early. Dortmund simply couldn't live with him.
ST: Harry Kane - 9/10 - Kane played more of a deeper role here to let Bayern's faster forwards run riot beyond him, but he still ended up being the main attraction. Some superb finishes to highlight his superiority over his opponents.
