Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has admitted the club will only pursue a permanent move for Jadon Sancho if Manchester United's financial demands are reasonable.
Sancho rejoined Dortmund on a six-month loan earlier this week in a deal which does not include the option for a permanent transfer, with United hoping the winger rebuilds his transfer value back with the club who helped him make his name.
"It is purely a loan," Kehl confirmed to Ruhr Nachrichten. "A purchase of this magnitude is not possible for us. We have no option to buy. It is purely a loan until the summer."
That being said, Kehl left the door open for a permanent deal but warned United that Dortmund would not make the first move.
"We know what market value it can generate. I'm not naive, but we'll still let things happen to us. It would be good if this return campaign worked well."
United agreed a fee of £73m to sign Sancho from Dortmund in 2021 but stand to make a huge loss on the winger after a tricky spell at Old Trafford which yielded just 12 goals and six assists in 82 games.
Sancho will return to United in the summer, when he will have just two years remaining on his contract, although United do hold the option to extend his deal to 2027.
While the winger has not played since August, Sancho could be in line to make his second debut for Dortmund against Darmstadt on Saturday.
"We are happy that Jadon is finally with us," said Dortmund boss Edin Terzic. "He had a lot of fun on the training pitch. He is healthy, he has trained a lot in the last few weeks. We will use the session again today and see how far he is."
