FC Cincinnati star Brandon Vazquez has been linked with a move away from the Eastern Conference team, amid reported interest from Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach.

A host of European clubs are interested in signing FC Cincinnati's Brandon Vazquez after his impressive 2022 campaign that saw him net 18 goals in 33 games. Vazquez was key to the Orange and Blue's fifth-place finish last season and their MLS Cup run that fell just short in the conference semi-finals.

Vazquez is particularly admired by Gladbach and their sporting director, Roland Virkus, travelled to the U.S. last month to watch Vazquez score in the 1-0 win over Nashville SC.

Vazquez addressed certain rumors, before confirming he is solely focused on the current season.

"This summer, for me it’s still uncertain what’s going to happen. The only thing I know for certain is what I have with Cincinnati right now, and we’re still currently battling to be first place in the East, so for me right now it’s just kind of the same — just focusing on performing every time I step onto the pitch and helping Cincinnati win," he said.

"Whatever is meant to happen will happen, Of course I’ve always dreamt of going overseas and playing in Europe and that’s still the objective for me, but we’re just not there yet" Vazquez said on his desire to play in Europe.

Vazquez has two goals in nine games this season. Cincinnati will hope that tally will rise in the coming games to continue their stay near the top of the table as well as increasing his price tag for a potential future transfer.

Before the 2023 MLS campaign kicked off, Vazquez admitted to refusing a transfer to Liga MX team Chivas de Guadalajara. Though he felt honored by the interest, he wasn't ready to give up on FC Cincinnati quite yet.

“You know, growing up with a Chivas jersey in my closet, it was exciting to hear their interest. I was flattered to have an offer like that from Chivas,” explained Vazquez in an interview with 90min

“But sitting down with Cincinnati, and having the conversation of where I am with the team, and what we’re trying to do in the league, we’re trying to win a championship and I think it’s very possible this year with the team that we have. I love the fans that we have, I love the city, the training ground, the coaches, my teammates, everything is so special and I wasn’t ready to let go of that just yet.”

But things may be different this summer.
