Bruno Fernandes admits questioning his ability to drag Man Utd out of crisis

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has admitted questioning his ability to drag the team out of their recent crisis.

While results have been largely positive for United - Erik ten Hag's side are up to sixth after beating Aston Villa 3-2 - serious concerns over the team's performances and ability to score goals have seen the pressure on everyone at Old Trafford ramped up.

Fernandes played an integral role in the comeback victory over Villa, after which he admitted periods of self-doubt during United's struggles.

"The belief has to be there, because if you don't believe in each other it's going to be difficult," he told Amazon Prime.

"Obviously in these last moments there's going to be some disbelief, even in yourself. You start to think, 'Am I even good enough to be here?'. It's normal when things are not going right. It's the way you overcome that and get results even when things are not going well."

Fernandes also argued the recent minority takeover from Sir Jim Ratcliffe has not had much of an impact on the squad, who remain focused on their tasks at hand.

"It's not going to change anything we do on then pitch, unless they put money [in] and bring some players for us," Fernandes said of the new ownership group. "But it has to be us [that] makes the difference we need.

"The papers and social media...we see everything, it's impossible not to. We know what the club is going through but we have to focus on what we can control and our performances."

United now sit just five points off the top four and will hope to maintain this feeling of optimism when they face Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
