Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez gave their Manchester United teammates a fiery berating at half-time during their 6-3 loss at Manchester City on Sunday.

The Red Devils trailed 4-0 at the break after being ripped to shreds by their rivals, with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both scoring first-half braces before completing hat-tricks after the interval.

The Sun report that Fernandes and Martinez gave such a loud team talk at half-time that it could be heard by City officials down the corridor.

Fernandes was one of United's worst performers on the day, and while Martinez was not exactly at fault for Haaland's dominance, he did little to help and was routinely overwhelmed by City's other attackers.

United initially responded well in the second half, with summer signing Antony pulling one back with a scintillating strike from range.

However, Haaland and Foden got on the scoresheet again to take City's haul to six goals. Substitute Anthony Martial responded with a late brace to make the scoreline at least look a little more respectable.

Fernandes then told reporters post-match that United's attitude is 'causing many problems', though the second-half performance was a big improvement on an unacceptable first.

The Portugal midfielder has made a slow start to the season, scoring just one goal and registering one assist in seven Premier League games thus far.

United are next in action on Thursday when they travel to Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League.
