Bukayo Saka hauled off with injury in England's match at Malta

Bukayo Saka had to be substituted at half-time of England's Euro 2024 qualifier with Malta.

The Arsenal winger was one of the Three Lions' key performers in the opening 45 minutes at the National Stadum in Ta' Qali.

He had to be withdrawn at the interval having rolled his ankle under a slide challenge towards the end of the half. Phil Foden was brought on as his replacement.

England went into the break three goals to the good, with Saka playing an instrumental role in their opener. Trent Alexander-Arnold's through ball from midfield found Saka racing in behind, and his cross was diverted in by Malta defender Ferdinando Apap with Harry Kane lurking in the box.

Alexander-Arnold himself grabbed England's second goal of the evening when the hosts failed to clear danger, before Kane added a third from the penalty spot after being hauled down by Matthew Guillaumier.

Saka did get a sight of goal before the end of the half, forcing goalkeeper Henry Bonello into a sprawling save with a driven effort from the edge of the box.

That was his final action of the evening before being replaced by Manchester City star Foden at the beginning of the second half.
