Burnley team news

Burnley's run of three consecutive victories is all the more impressive considering the spate of injuries Mike Jackson and his caretaker coaching setup have been juggling. Club captain Ben Mee has been part of the brain trust while recovering from an injury which is set to sideline him this weekend as well.

While Ashley Westwood isn't expected to figure again this term, Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Erik Pieters are nearing a return - though neither are expected to be ready as soon as Saturday.

Jay Rodriguez had to pull out of Burnley's warmup for last weekend's victory over Watford but Jackson is hopeful the forward will be able to shake off the minor concern. Burnley's caretaker coach was also tentatively optimistic about the return of the team's top scorer Maxwel Cornet.

Aston Villa team news

Lucas Digne completed a surprisingly swift recovery from a fractured collarbone to play the full 90 minutes against Norwich last weekend. His compatriot Morgan Sanson, however, was still missing with a knock while Kortney Hause hasn't been part of a matchday squad since March with an abdominal issue.

Leon Bailey injured his ankle in Villa's win over Norwich, adding another chapter in the weighty tome that details his struggles with fitness. His manager Steven Gerrard summed up the prevailing emotion post-game when he reflected: "He's frustrated, we're frustrated and I'm sure the supporters are as well."

Burnley vs Aston Villa score prediction

Burnley go into the weekend three places behind Villa even though Gerrard's side have lost more matches (17) than their imminent hosts (14) this term. Last weekend, Villa ended a run of five winless matches with victory over the division's bottom side, confirming Norwich's relegation in the process.

While their fate can't be decided on Saturday, that threat looms over every match Burnley play. Thus far, the Clarets have thrived under the pressure and may well continue to do so against a Villa side that has well and truly slumped after enjoying the type of new manager bounce Burnley are now enjoying.

Prediction: Burnley 2-1 Aston Villa
