Burnley's survival hopes come down to the final day as they host Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

Kicking off the day outside of the bottom three on goal difference, the Clarets need to match Leeds' result at Brentford to secure a seventh consecutive season in the Premier League. Following a run of three straight wins, Mike Jackson has seen his men lose twice before picking up a draw at Aston Villa last time out - so facing Eddie Howe's Newcastle will likely present some difficulties.

Although the Magpies had lost two on the bounce - to Liverpool and Manchester City - their 2-0 victory over Champions League-chasing Arsenal last time out demonstrated the strides they've taken since Howe has taken up the managerial role at the club.

In with a chance of securing a top-half finish (imagine saying that six months ago), they'll be determined to conclude the season on a high note.

Here's 90min's preview of this one.

Burnley team news

Matt Lowton joins Jackson's lengthy list of absentees after his sending off at Villa Park last time out.

The right-back will now miss out alongside Erik Pieters, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Ashley Westwood and Matej Vydra, while Ben Mee is unlikely to be ready to grace the field again.

Jay Rodriguez may be fit enough to retake a place in the matchday squad, although still represents a doubt.

Newcastle team news

Howe will once again have to make do without Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock and Jamal Lewis, while former Burnley man Chris Wood and Fabian Schar will undergo late fitness tests to determine their availability.

Elsewhere, Ryan Fraser is a doubt with a tight hamstring and Javier Manquillo has chickenpox.

There aren't expected to be too many changes after Howe described their victorious performance against the Gunners as the best of his tenure so far, although Kieran Trippier could push to be involved from the off.

Burnley vs Newcastle prediction

It's going to take a lot for Burnley to manage a result against a Newcastle side that is consistently and undeniably showing the credentials of a top-half, European-chasing team.

Having said that, character, guts and remarkable resolve have been prominent and endearing themes of Burnley's modern football-defying stint in the top flight. And, while a win would be a fairy-tale result in this massively significant clash, a draw is certainly not beyond their reach.

Prediction: Burnley 1-1 Newcastle
