The 2022/23 Champions League is as open as the competition has ever been in its storied history.

While Real Madrid remain alive in the competition they take the favourites tag, but Bayern Munich are eyeing a first continental crown since 2020 and Manchester City look set to fight hard for their first ever UCL crown.

The entertaining Serie A leaders Napoli are strong favourites too, while minnows Benfica are among the sides looking to spring an upset in the quarter finals.

If you can't wait for the Champions League action to restart, we've got a short term solution. 90min simulated the ties involving the last eight teams to see who would qualify for the semi finals.

And please remember, this is just a bit of fun. Events in real life may differ.

Benfica vs Inter

Inter are the last Italian team to win the Champions League, triumphing in 2010 under Jose Mourinho. This is the first time they have reached the quarter finals since 2011, with Benfica their second consecutive Portuguese opponents after seeing off Porto.

However, they have struggled to progress this season while Benfica lead the Primeira Liga by some distance. Their attacking endeavour under Roger Schmidt is reflected in their simulated results here, with a whopping 5-2 aggregate win apparently on the cards.

  • 1st leg: Benfica 2-1 Inter
  • 2nd leg: Inter 1-3 Benfica

Benfica win 5-2 on aggregate

Manchester City vs Bayern Munich

Manchester City fans are praying this is finally the season where they end their Champions League hoodoo, but to do so they must first get past Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, who they haven't faced since 2015.

Julian Nagelsmann's side have deficiencies but have been electric in Europe so far. Fortune favours the Bavarians here, with the Germans predicted to leave the Etihad with a sturdy first leg lead before finishing the job with a draw at the Allianz Arena.

AC Milan vs Napoli

AC Milan and Napoli are on the same side of the draw as Inter and Benfica and will avoid the likes of Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid until the final. Fans might have hoped this exciting Napoli side would get to test their skills against one of the best sides on the continent, but instead they drew soon-to-be dethroned Italian champions Milan.

Most expect Luciano Spalletti's side to breeze past their domestic rivals, but a first leg loss in our simulation left them with a lot of work to do at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. They managed it with four goals at home, including the winner in extra time.

Real Madrid vs Chelsea

Most sides get sick of the sight of Real Madrid in the Champions League, though Chelsea aren't one of them. The west London side have a good record against Los Blancos, beating them in the semi finals en route to winning the Champions League in 2021.

However, they were knocked out at this stage of the competition by the same team last season and the evidence here points to another win for Carlo Ancelotti and Real, eventually coming through the tie as 4-1 aggregate winners thanks to victories both home and away.
