A Charlotte FC executive is in London with hopes of negotiating a move to bring Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron back to Major League Soccer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Almiron, who competed with Paraguay in Copa America this summer, scored Newcastle United's first Champions League goal in over 20 years this past season earning player of the match honors against Paris Saint-Germain. An initial approach was made, but the deal is not going to be easy to get done. Time is of the essence with the MLS secondary transfer window closing in two days.

Almiron gained notoriety during his first stint in MLS with Atlanta United. He signed with the team back in Dec. 2016 for the expansion side as a Young Designated Player from Lanus. He was a key part in Atlanta's victorious MLS Cup 2018 campaign alongside Josef Martinez.

The Paraguayan earned a move to Newcastle United in Jan. 2019 signing a five-and-a-half-year deal. He signed a new, three-and-a-half-year deal in 2023 with the club.

Almiron has made 177 appearances for Newcastle scoring 23 goals since 2019. If a deal is agreed to, Almiron would add a needed attacking boost either through the midfield or on the wing for Charlotte as they push up the Eastern Conference. The team failed to qualify for the Leagues Cup knockout stage after failing to win a game against Cruz Azul and Philadelphia Union.

Charlotte has already completed a deal for Fulham and United States international Tim Ream solidifying one of the league's best defense. The team is also reportedly finalizing a deal for Dutch international and Feyenoord player Calvin Stengs.

Charlotte currently sits sixth in the MLS Eastern Conference, just one point off overtaking New York City FC in the standings. A string of solid performances could see the team jump up the standings and enter the playoffs with a higher seed.

Adding Almiron would certainly improve the team's attack, but this deal will have to be done swiftly considering the time constraints.
