Chelsea and Manchester United both missed out on the chance to make a statement in the race for the Premier League top four, playing out a dull 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Things got off to an even start with both teams cancelling each other out. The closest either side came to scoring was when the impressive Callum Hudson-Odoi swung in a dangerous cross which Olivier Giroud narrowly failed to get on the end of.

After the break, the game became more open. Early in the second half Hakim Ziyech had an effort blocked by Luke Shaw, while Scott McTominay went close on the hour mark. Following this fleeting flurry of excitement the contest reverted back to its early tightness, with a share of the spoils probably being the right result.

Here are your player ratings for both teams from Stamford Bridge...

CHELSEA RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Edouard Mendy (GK) - 6/10 - Looked shaky with the ball at his feet but was solid when called into action.

Cesar Azpilicueta (CB) - 7/10 -
Caused some problems with his overlaps down the right. Defended well, winning almost all of his aerial duels.

Antonio Rudiger (CB) - 7/10 -
An accomplished display in the heart of defence. Rarely came off second best in a challenge and kept his composure when United pressed high.

Andreas Christensen (CB) - 7/10 -
Spotless in possession and shackled United's forwards pretty well.

2. Wing Backs & Midfielders

Callum Hudson-Odoi (RWB) - 7/10 - Provided a potent threat down the right-hand side, whipping in some good crosses and going close with a volley. Taken off at half time for Reece James after suffering an injury.

N'Golo Kante (CM) - 7/10 -
Got through a remarkable amount of running and broke up play effectively. He finished with a stunning five tackles and three interceptions. On the ball he might have been better.

Mateo Kovacic (CM) - 6/10 -
Showed his excellent close control on several occasions. Passing could have been a bit more progressive at times.

Ben Chilwell (LWB) - 7/10 -
Restored to the starting XI and put in a good account of himself. Perhaps could have driven forward even more though.

3. Forwards

Ziyech did well on a rare start

Hakim Ziyech (RW) - 7/10 - Poor early on. Offered very little on the ball and hampered Chelsea's press with a few wimpish tackles. Improved significantly thereafter, carving out a string of chances for his teammates.

Olivier Giroud (ST) - 6/10 -
He made some clever runs but his lack of mobility meant he did not test Maguire and Lindelof enough by running in behind.

Mason Mount (LW) - 7/10 -
A bright display. He looked spritely in the half spaces and added some inventiveness in the final third.

4. Substitutes

Reece James - 6/10 - Stepped in for the injured Hudson-Odoi. Was not quite as dangerous going forward but he locked down Rashford and Shaw.

Christian Pulisic - 6/10 -
Not massively involved after coming on.

Timo Werner - N/A

David de Gea (GK) - 7/10 - Not a huge amount for him to do. Reliable when he was forced into action.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB) - 6/10 -
Early on he pressed really high to try and disrupt Chelsea. Chilwell caused him problems and his attacking output was minimal.

Harry Maguire (CB) - 7/10 -
A few sloppy moments early on but he ironed out the kinks as things progressed. His passing was good.

Victor Lindelof (CB) - 6/10 -
Not great. Allowed Giroud a free run in the first half which nearly led to a goal. Made an inspired clearance to deny Werner near the end.

Luke Shaw (LB) - 7/10 -
A few heroic blocks, including a vital one early in the second half to deny Ziyech. His side's best performer defensively.

6. Midfielders

Scott McTominay (CM) - 6/10 - Very aggressive display but not always effective in his tackling. He only won three out of his nine duels.

Fred (CM) - 7/10 -
Managed to match Kante blow for blow, registering a lot of ball recoveries. He also wasn't too bad on the ball, curling a shot just over after the break.

Bruno Fernandes (AM) - 5/10 -
Disappointing. His final ball was nonexistent and he looked leggy.

7. Forwards

Daniel James (RW) - 6/10 - A few moments of promise but for the most part he was pretty withdrawn.

Mason Greenwood (ST) - 6/10 -
Quiet. Only had one one shot all game and was a bit too safe when he got the ball.

Marcus Rashford (LW) - 7/10 -
One of his side's most creative players. He was direct and completed two key passes.

8. Substitutes

Anthony Martial - 6/10 - Little to report from his 10 minutes cameo.
