Chelsea 1-3 Man City: Player Ratings as Citizens blow away Blues with scintillating first half display

First half goals from Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne helped Manchester City breeze to a 3-1 win over a lacklustre Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

City started the game well and took the lead when Gundogan wriggled free of Thiago Silva on the edge of the box before firing a shot into the bottom corner.

Soon after, the visitors doubled their advantage. Foden's persistence paid off with the winger tapping in De Bruyne's cutback seconds after being dispossessed himself. Before the break, City grabbed a third with De Bruyne slotting home after Raheem Sterling burst free following a Chelsea free kick.

After this scintillating first half, the game fizzled out with neither side looking like adding to the scoreline after the break. Eventually though, substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi did grab a consolation, sliding in Kai Havertz's cross seconds before the final whistle.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Edouard Mendy (GK) - 4/10 - Should have done better with both of City's first two goals.

Cesar Azpilicueta (RB) - 4/10 - Beaten for pace time after time by Foden. Not what he would have wanted on his 400th appearance.

Kurt Zouma (CB) - 5/10 - Should have made sure with his botched clearance that led to City's second.

Thiago Silva (CB) - 4/10 - Turned pretty easily for the first goal. Marking was slack for the second.

Ben Chilwell (LB) - 6/10 - Did okay. Got forward consistently and kept Sterling pretty quiet.

2. Midfielders

N'Golo Kante (CM) - 6/10 - His error led to the third goal. However, without his five tackles, things would have been even worse for his side. Substituted on the hour mark after tweaking his hamstring.

Mason Mount (CM) - 5/10 - Pretty anonymous. Worked hard but did not impact the game creatively.

Mateo Kovacic (CM) - 5/10 - A frustrating afternoon. Struggled to gain a foothold in midfield and City toyed with him at points in the second half.

3. Forwards

Hakim Ziyech (RW) - 4/10 - Created nothing. Lots of touches, but very little attacking intent.

Timo Werner (ST) - 4/10 - Ran down several dead ends, losing possession four times in the first half alone. Had one shot all game.

Christian Pulisic (LW) - 6/10 - Chelsea's brightest attacker. Was always trying something, as evidenced by his 14, yes 14, attempted dribbles. However, a final product was lacking.

4. Substitutes

Billy Gilmour - 7/10 - Looked pretty good after coming on. His fresh legs added some bite to the midfield.

Callum Hudson-Odoi - 7/10 - Scored a consolation at the end.

Kai Havertz - 7/10 - Provided the assist for Chelsea's only goal.

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Zack Steffen (GK) - 6/10 - Marked his Premier League debut by picking up a back pass in the opening five minutes. Very little to do thereafter.

Joao Cancelo (RB) - 8/10 - Excellent. Operated in almost a deep lying midfield role at times and threatened on the overlap.

John Stones (CB) - 8/10 - Looked solid. Made one particularly important block in the first half. Also dominant in the air.

Ruben Dias (CB) - 8/10 - Another fine display. Led his side in blocks and clearances.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB) - 8/10 - Did well defensively and also offered a lot going forward. City would be foolish to let him leave in January.

6. Midfielders

Rodri (CM) - 7/10 - A few clumsy moments in possession early on. Settled down thereafter.

Ilkay Gundogan (CM) - 9/10 - One of his best games in recent memory. Opened the scoring with a great strike and knitted things together well in midfield.

Bernardo Silva (AM) - 7/10 - No direct goal involvements but he was typically tidy in possession.

7. Forwards

Raheem Sterling (RW) - 7/10 - Showed good composure to create the third goal.

Kevin De Bruyne (ST) - 9/10 - Missed a good chance early on but soon made up for it by assisting and scoring before the break.

Phil Foden (LW) - 8/10 - Rinsed Azpilicueta repeatedly. It was a real throwback to the glory years of Premier League wingers.

8. Substitutes

Fernandinho - 6/10 - Game was won by the time he was introduced.
