Chelsea complete £6m signing of academy forward

Chelsea's winter spending has not stopped yet, with the Blues agreeing a deal to sign Southampton striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan to join their academy, 90min can confirm.

The Blues snapped up Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana during the winter window, as well as luring Joao Felix over from Atletico Madrid on a six-month loan.

Despite embarking on the most expensive January shopping spree of all time, Chelsea have not stopped there and have struck a deal to sign 17-year-old Morgan from Southampton.

Formerly on the books at Chelsea, Morgan is set to return to Cobham after the Blues agreed a fee worth up to £6m for the highly rated striker, who has four goals and five assists in eight games for Southampton's Under-21 side this season.

Morgan, who has been on the first-team bench for Southampton in the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup this season, is understood to have rejected the chance to sign a professional contract with the Saints, forcing them to cash in.

The moves comes just days after former Southampton recruitment chief Joe Shields started work at Chelsea, becoming the Blues' co-director of recruitment and talent.

Morgan's move to Chelsea isn't the first deal between the two clubs' academies this season. 16-year-old Tyler Dibling joined the Blues in the summer but soon asked to be released from his contract to return to Southampton for personal reasons - a request which was swiftly granted.
