Paris Saint-Germain could be set to offer Chelsea flop Tiémoué Bakayoko an escape route from his torrid time at Stamford Bridge.

The defensive midfielder joined Chelsea in the summer of 2017 for £40m having played a crucial role in Monaco's impressive run to the Champions League semi finals.

However, the 25-year-old flattered to deceive during the Blues' ill-fated 2017/18 campaign and was shipped out on loan to Milan the following season, where he endured another inconsistent stint.

The France international has spent this season back with Monaco in Ligue 1 having failed to impress Frank Lampard in pre-season, but it seems he may have done enough to seal a move to another big club come the summer.

According to Le10Sport, PSG are considering a move for the central midfielder and have added him to their shortlist, although Monaco may have first refusal as there is an option to buy in his loan deal in the municipality.

The report claims that the Parisians are keen to add some depth and mettle to their midfield, with the likes of Marco Verratti, Idrissa Gueye and Ander Herra unable to match Chelsea man's physical attributes.

Talks between the club and Bakayoko's representatives are already believed to have taken place, after the player impressed director of football Leonardo when the Brazilian held the same role in Milan.

A loan has been discussed but it a permanent transfer seems more likely given the plethora of central midfield options at Lampard's disposal and just how far down the pecking order Bakayoko finds himself in west London.

While Monaco have the option to buy him outright for between €30m and €42m, a costly permanent switch may be jeopardised by the coronavirus pandemic. Le10 Sport claim the player is open to the idea of a move to the French capital to challenge for the Champions League, play alongside his good friend Kylian Mbappé and stake a claim to a place in the France squad ahead of the rearranged Euro 2021.

With Chelsea potentially recouping a good chunk of the £40m they splurged on Bakayoko three years ago, this seems like it could be a good move for all parties.
