Jorginho's agent admits return to Italy would be a 'dream'

The agent of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has admitted that returning to Italy would be a "dream" scenario.

The 29-year-old has had a terrific year for club and country, helping Chelsea lift the Champions League as well as winning the European Championship with Italy.

Jorginho played a key role in both of those triumphs, despite seeing his penalty saved by Jordan Pickford in the dramatic shootout victory over England at Wembley.

He has been a favourite of Thomas Tuchel since he took charge of Chelsea, becoming a regular in the first team after being in and out of the side under Frank Lampard. However, Jorginho's agent has hinted that although his client is enjoying great success right now, he'd be keen to return to his homeland should the opportunity arise.

"He has a contract with Chelsea until 2023," Joao Santos told Radio Bianconera. "Obviously, it would be a dream for him to return to Italy, hopefully after winning the World Cup.

"We’ll have to see what the market looks like in a couple of years and what the other situations are."

Santos is no stranger to talking about Jorginho's future publicly, and recently told a different radio station in Italy that if talks over a new contract were not forthcoming at Chelsea - owing to his success at Stamford Bridge - he would actively seek a return to Italy, potentially at former club Napoli.

"Jorginho won the Champions League and has now become a strong point in Italy too," he said. "He has earned everything on the pitch, sweating every victory, always giving his all on the pitch.

"He wants to extend his contract with the English club, but, if he cannot do it, he’ll think about returning to Serie A, perhaps at Napoli."

Tuchel, meanwhile, has been effusive in his praise of Jorginho, recently highlighting his importance to Chelsea and what he brings to the team.

"I think Jorgi is a very strategic player," Tuchel told reporters (via football.london). "He can play in advance, knows what to do in ball possession, can imagine what is going to happen in one or two passes ahead.

"He knows where to help out in short distances and long distances, when to switch the play, when not to switch the play. He has a good sense of rhythm."
