PSV Eindhoven and Mexico winger Hirving "Chucky" Lozano is in advanced talks with MLS expansion team San Diego FC, according to a report from The Athletic
The Athletic's Tom Bogert reported San Diego FC is expected to pay a transfer fee around $12 million to PSV making Lozano the club's premier signing ahead of a 2025 debut. The deal is reportedly not done, but according to Bogert the expansion club hopes to get it done before Copa America. Lozano has scored six goals across 21 matches in the Eredivisie this season.
San Diego FC has already signed goalkeeper Duran Ferree, Jepee Tverskov and Marcus Ingvartsen. The latter two currently play for FC Nordsjælland, San Diego's sister club. If the move does go through, this will be a marquee signing for the expansion club.
The Athletic has also reported back in April that San Diego FC is in talks with AS Monaco technical director Carlos AVina Ibarrola for the sporting director position.

Lozano will likely draw comparisons to Carlos Vela because of location, nationality, position and age. Vela was 28-years-old when he signed with LAFC, Lozano turns 29 in July. Their national team statistics as well are eerily similar. Vela has 72 caps for the Mexico national team scoring 19 goals, while Lozano has 70 and 18 respectively. Though, Lozano is still playing for the national team so those numbers will change.
Both wingers, Vela excelled and was a talisman for The Black and Gold. Fans will hope Lozano hits the ground running if the signing does come to fruition.
Lozano could join San Diego fresh off an Eredivisie title. PSV have nearly wrapped up the title with three matches remaining. Lozano has six goals and three assists across 21 appearances in the league this season. This would be Lozano's second Eredivisie title, and PSV's first since 2017-18 when Lozano last played for the club. He rejoined the Dutch side after four seasons for Napoli in Serie A.
