Cristian Romero injured on international duty

Cristian Romero was forced off with a hamstring injury during Argentina's goalless draw with Brazil on Tuesday.

The reigning Copa America champions sealed their spot at next year's World Cup in Qatar thanks to the result, having gone unbeaten in all 13 of their qualifiers, while Brazil had already qualified.

However, there's bad news for Tottenham, who will be sweating over Romero's fitness after the centre back went down clutching his hamstring. He was replaced in the 53rd minute by German Pezzella.

The 23-year-old will now undergo tests to determine the severity of the injury, with Spurs set to take on Leeds on Sunday in their next fixture under new manager Antonio Conte. The Italian picked Romero for his first two games in charge alongside Eric Dier and Ben Davies in defence.

If Romero were to miss the Leeds game, Davinson Sanchez would likely be drafted in. The Colombian's only appearance under Conte so far was as a substitute during the 3-2 Europa Conference League victory over Vitesse, during which Romero was sent off.

Tottenham don't have too many injury worries elsewhere. Ryan Sessegnon is finally back in full training, having been out since September with a hamstring strain, and his return will provide competition for Sergio Reguilon at left-wing-back. He played in Spurs' two Conference League qualifying fixtures earlier this season.

Top stars Harry Kane and Son Heung-min both scored for their countries during the international break. Kane managed seven and is closing in on Wayne Rooney's goal-scoring record for England, while Son netted a penalty as South Korea beat Iraq in an important World Cup qualifier.

Tottenham are currently ninth in the Premier League, six points off the Champions League qualification spots.
