Dani Carvajal Close to Renewing Real Madrid Contract

Dani Carvajal is close to extending his stay at Real Madrid after agreeing a contract extension until 2024.

The 28-year-old joined the Real Madrid academy aged ten and worked his way through the age groups to become a graduate in the first team. He joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2012 in a €5m deal, with a buy-back clause, which Madrid activated just one year later.

Since then Carvajal has been the first-choice right-back at the club under several managers including Rafa Benitez, Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane and been a key part of the side that won three Champions League titles in a row.

These impressive performances and his relationship with fans have seen the club move to tie him down to a longer contract, with Marca revealing a deal is close to extend his deal until 2024.

According to the Spanish paper, Carvajal and the club have already agreed on wages and length of contract and all that is missing is the defender putting pen to paper. His current deal is due to expire in 2022.

Carvajal is the undisputed number one right-back for Los Blancos, with his presence a contributing factor in the departure of youngster Achraf Hakimi to Inter Milan in the summer. Carvajal is currently nursing a knee injury, which has seen him miss the last seven games.

The Spanish international was plagued by muscular injuries earlier in his career but a change in diet is credited with curing those, with the defender playing 42 times for Real Madrid last season as they won La Liga under Zinedine Zidane for the second time.

The new contract will keep Carvajal at Madrid until he's 32 years old, meaning he would have spent 22 years as part of his boyhood club and will surely go down as a legend at the Bernabeu.
