Darlington Nagbe captures fourth career MLS Cup with Columbus Crew
- Nagbe wins second MLS Cup with Columbus
- He joined from Atlanta United in 2020
- 32-year-old signed new long-term deal back in November
Columbus Crew veteran midfielder Darlington Nagbe cemented himself further in the MLS' history by claiming his career fourth league title at Lower.com Field vs LAFC.
Few MLS players have enjoyed the success that Nagbe has, as not many can say they lifted just one MLS Cup in their playing career in North America. The 32-year-old has established himself as one of the greatest players in league history, claiming the coveted trophy with three different teams in his 13 years on the field.
"I just told the guys we've been going at it for a year now. I was talking about everything we’ve sacrificed," Nagbe said postgame.
"Guys are away from their family all season long and we've got an opportunity to give them a special moment. A lot of them flew in from around the world to be here with us. It was mostly about that. Telling each other how proud I am of everyone, that I need them. None of us can do this alone and we all need each other."
Nagbe, who signed a two-year contract extension with Columbus through the 2025 season in November, becomes just the 10th player in league history to lift four MLS Cups.
The win over the 2022 champs saw Columbus take home their second title in four seasons and third overall, as Nagbe praised the club's willingness for everyone to pull together in the same direction for one common goal: winning.
"Two in four years, that’s special," Nagbe said. "Not just from the group and the team, but from the organization and the direction they want to head in."
With the likes of Nagbe, Aidan Morris, Cucho Hernandez, Diego Rossi and the emergence of Patrick Schulte between the sticks, the Crew will be amongst the favorites to take home 2024 MLS Cup as well as Supporters' Shield and US Open Cup.
