Daryl Dike sidelines for 9 months with Achilles injury
United States men’s national team figure Daryl Dike will be sidelined for up to nine months after suffering an Achilles injury.
The striker picked up the hit during West Brom’s 2-1 win against Stoke on Saturday, going down in the first half before being stretchered off while requiring an oxygen mask.
"Albion striker Daryl Dike will be sidelined for six to nine months after suffering an Achilles tendon injury at Stoke City on Saturday. A scan has since confirmed surgery is required to repair a full rupture of the USA international's right Achilles, after which he will begin his rehabilitation,” said the club.
“Albion's medical and sports science teams will provide Dike with all the support he requires to return to full fitness later this year."
This is the latest setback for Dike, after suffering a hamstring injury in January 2022 that kept him off the pitch for six months. Following his return in June, the player dealt with a thigh problem that led to another three-month absence.
Dike made a comeback for the Baggies in November, managing seven goals and one assist for the team in regular-season games before seeing another spell on the sidelines.
His constant injuries forced Dike out of contention for the USMNT’s World Cup roster, sitting out the international tournament as the American side qualified to the knockout stage. But the player made a comeback for the USMNT, recently featuring under interim head coach Anthony Hudson in a Concacaf Nations League match against El Salvador.
