David de Gea reveals why Erik ten Hag was angry despite Bournemouth win

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has empathised with manager Erik ten Hag for being angry at their performance during Tuesday's 3-0 win against Bournemouth.

Well-worked goals from Casemiro, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford saw the Red Devils take all three points at Old Trafford and open up a five-point cushion to fifth-placed Tottenham, while they are now also one point behind rivals Manchester City having played a game more.

But Ten Hag was notably annoyed as he walked back across the touchline and down the tunnel, revealing post-match that he felt United were a little bit 'lucky' and were not 'smart'.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News after the final whistle, De Gea agreed with Ten Hag's sentiments.

"He was happy with the clean sheet but at the same time he was a bit angry," the goalkeeper admitted

"Because we conceded too many chances and we were too open at the end of the game, so he was a bit angry.

"He [Ten Hag] is doing well. I say before, he puts every player in the same direction and we feel like a proper team. Everyone wants to win, everyone wants to play for this club and that's massive.

"He brought a great spirit to the team, we are playing really well and this is the way we have to show and keep the momentum as well."

United take on Everton in the FA Cup third round on Friday before returning to Premier League action against neighbours Manchester City next weekend.
