David de Gea uses Jose Mourinho meme to criticise Casemiro red card decision

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was left perplexed by the red card shown to teammate Casemiro against Crystal Palace and expressed it in a wonderfully modern way.

Casemiro was given his marching orders in the second half following a flare-up resulting from Jeffrey Schlupp’s off-the-ball challenge on Antony.

It descended into a melee, during which the Brazilian grabbed Palace midfielder Will Hughes by the throat.

When VAR sifted through the evidence, it was Casemiro who was deemed guilty of violent conduct and he was sent off.

De Gea, though, was clearly unhappy with the decision and he took to social media after the game to express it.

The Spaniard simply tweeted a meme of former Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho and his famous line of: "If I speak I am in big trouble."

It wasn’t the only thing he tweeted in fairness. He also posted a much more celebratory picture with the caption “+3 [points]” in reference to the win.

Unless there is a successful appeal, Casemiro will now serve a three match ban for Man Utd, which will be a blow given how important a player he has become in Erik ten Hag’s side.

"I see two teams fighting each other," said Ten Hag. "I see two teams where several players crossed the line and one player is picked out and gets sent off. For me that's not right.

"When you freeze, Casemiro has crossed the line. But many more players are crossing the line. It's about consistency."

"Casemiro is protecting our player and also protecting the player who wants to attack. He is holding him back - he is protecting him. He doesn't want to hurt the player."
