Didier Deschamps has insisted that he did not play a part in Kylian Mbappe being reintegrated in the Paris Saint-Germain first-team.

The France international shocked the footballing world when he informed Paris Saint-Germain he would not be triggering the option to extend his contract until 2025, a decision which led to the club putting him up for sale this summer. In a bid to force Mbappe out of the club, PSG banished the player from first-team activities and opted not to take him on their pre-season tour of Japan.

PSG even accepted a world record offer of £257m (€300m) from Al Hilal in July. But despite proposing a huge contract offer to Mbappe, the Saudi Pro League side were unable to persuade the 24-year-old star to enter negotiations.

However, after what the Ligue 1 giants described as "constructive and positive discussions" regarding the player's future, Mbappe has now been reintegrated into the first-team and came off the bench to score a penalty in the 1-1 draw with Toulouse at the weekend.

Speaking to L'Equipe, France manager Deschamps was asked if he had any involvement in the decision made by PSG to bring Mbappe back into the first team fold.

"The situation was complicated; it's now normalised," he said. "So much the better. Everyone wins. I chatted with him. It's very good for the French team of course, but also for the club and for him.

"Did I push Mbappe to play again or to reconnect with PSG? No, I'm not getting involved in that. It's not my role. I discuss with him, as with other players, but it's their career. I am not an adviser. At most, I give them an opinion if they ask me."

Mbappe will likely play a pivotal role for Deschamps' France team when they face off against the Republic of Ireland in a Euro 2024 qualifier on 7 September.
