The latest on Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hamstring injury
By Tom Gott
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who limped off with a hamstring injury during the 5-4 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup fifth round, will not feature against Manchester City despite manager Carlo Ancelotti's initial hopes that he'd be ready.
England international Calvert-Lewin was in electric form during his last outing, bagging one goal and two assists in the first half, but he managed just ten minutes after the break before signalling to the bench that he needed to come off.
Calvert-Lewin missed two games with a hamstring injury back in January, and Ancelotti initially hoped that his lead talisman would only miss the Toffees' clash with Fulham, which they lost 2-0 at Goodison Park.
But the Italian has confirmed in his Tuesday press conference that Calvert-Lewin will not be fit to take on rampant City, who are firmly on course to regain their Premier League crown, though there is a chance he'll be available for Everton's next game on Saturday.
“Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jean-Philippe Gbamin will not be available, for sure," he confirmed.
“For Dominic, I think it is a matter of days [before he is fit again]. We hope he will be available on Saturday."
Ancelotti also spoke on the fitness of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, confirming the Englishman will return in goal at the expense of Robin Olsen should checks on his fitness provide positive news. There could also be a return from Allan, who has largely impressed after joining from Napoli.
What do I do in FPL?!
Calvert-Lewin has been in excellent form for Everton this season, notching 18 goals and four assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.
His 13 Premier League strikes have him tied for second in the league's scoring charts, behind only Liverpool's Mohamed Salah. Not only is he crucial for Ancelotti's side, but he's also popular choice in Fantasy Premier League.
At a fraction of the price of strikers like Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero, Calvert-Lewin is a tough one to replace, but fortunately for managers all around the country, there are plenty of cut-price strikers strutting their stuff this season should you wish to replace him.
Leeds hitman Patrick Bamford is in the form of his life, while Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Southampton's Danny Ings should also be considered if you find yourself needing to replace Calvert-Lewin.
Or, you could stick with DCL in the hope he'll be back to bang a couple of goals against out of sorts Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.
