Ederson wins 2023 The Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper award
- Ederson won FIFA's men's goalkeeper for the first time
- Brazilian shot-stopper won the treble with club side Manchester City
- He beat Thibaut Courtois and Yassine Bounou to claim the award
Manchester City and Brazil goalkeeper Ederson has won the 2023 The Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper award after his treble-winning season at club level.
The Cityzens stopper was their number one as Pep Guardiola's side won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
The 30-year-old arguably saved his best game for Man City's final outing of 2022/23 in the Champions League final against Italian giants Inter. He made five saves including a stunner in the closing moments to ensure Rodri's 68th-minute effort was enough for victory.
Ederson claimed the trophy for the first time in his career, having previously finished third back in 2019. Somewhat strangely, it was Thibaut Courtois who was instead named in the 2023 FIFA FIFPRO Men's World XI.
Real Madrid star Courtois was shortlisted for the award alongside Al Hilal and Morocco keeper Yassine Bounou.
Speaking at the awards ceremony in London, Ederson said: "Thanks to my family. My wife and my children. They are very important to me. Thank you to the players. It was a great year."
On top of the domestic double and the UCL title, Ederson also picked up the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup
A five-player shortlist for the men's award was announced back in September before Andre Onana and Marc-Andre ter Stegen were cut from the running.
