Eduardo Camavinga has reiterated his stance that he does not want to play as a left-back for Real Madrid.
Since joining from Rennes in the summer of 2021, Camavinga has become one of Los Blancos' most dependable players.
He is naturally a box-to-box central midfielder and though he has often been deployed in that position, he has sometimes had to fill in at left-back due to a lack of cover in the squad - Camavinga's versatility has become a running joke in Spain and online.
Camavinga is the only left-footed midfielder in the Real Madrid first-team setup, which makes him Carlo Ancelotti's prime candidate to start on the left side of defence when Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia are unavailable.
However, Camavinga has repeatedly stated that he would prefer not to play in defence. Speaking ahead of France's international friendly with Scotland on Tuesday, he confirmed this once again, though admitted he will fulfil whatever role is needed of him.
"They ask me this [question about his position] every day. I am someone who plays for the team and when I am needed. I did not know this position before, but it is where I have adapted, whether with the French national team or with Real Madrid. But I don't particularly like that position. I think everyone knows it but if I have to play there I do it even if it's not necessarily with pleasure. I'm still a midfielder," Camavinga said.
"When I have to play it is not so hard. I spoke with the coach. But as I have always said, the most important thing is the team.
"Someone had to be put in that position and, seeing that I am a team player, I have played there even though I don't like it too much.
"The best thing is to give everything for the club and for the team. You don't always have what you want in life and you have to see the good side."
