EFL Confirm 3 More Coronavirus Cases in Latest Round of Testing
The EFL have confirmed that three more individuals have tested positive for coronavirus, after a further 1,146 tests were conducted across the Championship, League 1 and League 2.
Rigorous testing is underway across the Football League following the announcement that the Championship will resume on 20 June, more than three months after its last game took place.
The latest round of testing included players and staff from all 61 active EFL Clubs, with 1,446 tests conducted in total.
Two new cases have been confirmed in the Championship and one in League Two, as an EFL statement reads: "Following the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 1179 players and club staff from the 24 Championship Clubs were tested over the course of Wednesday 3 June, Thursday 4 June, Friday 5 June and Saturday 6 June, with two individuals testing positive from two Clubs.
"135 players and Club staff were tested from four League One clubs with zero individuals testing positive.
"132 players and Club staff were tested from four League Two clubs with one individual testing positive."
"Those players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities."
The statement concludes: "The EFL will continue to make regular and relevant announcements as appropriate in respect of the testing programme to support competition integrity and transparency.
"No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the league."
No date has been confirmed for the resumption of League One or Two as yet, and there has been much debate over the financial viability of English football's bottom two tiers resuming behind closed doors.
A similar issue faced Scottish football, where the SPFL have moved to curtail all four Scottish senior leagues.
