Efrain Alvarez departs LA Galaxy for Liga MX side Club Tijuana
- Alvarez tallied 21 G/A in 94 appearances for LA Galaxy
- 21-year-old rose through the ranks in LA's academy and second team
- Galaxy remain in the Western Conference basement with nine games to go
Efrain Alvarez has completed his transfer from LA Galaxy to Liga MX outfit Club Tijuana.
Alvarez made 94 appearances for the Galaxy, registering six goals and 15 assists during his time at the club. The 21-year-old most notably scored the lone goal against Charlotte FC in their first-ever game in March 2022 with a stunning strike from outside the box.
Alvarez has made four appearances at the international level for Mexico, and will now have the chance to showcase his talents in Liga MX. The East Los Angeles native worked his way up through the Gs academy but found minutes hard to come by in the 2023 season.
"We want to thank Efrain for his commitment to the LA Galaxy for the past seven plus years," Galaxy sporting director and head coach Greg Vanney said in a release. "Efrain has left a special impact on the club progressing through the academy, Galaxy II and the first team and we wish him and his family all the best in this next step of his career."
Tijuana sit in 16th place in the Liga MX Apertura with five points collected from six games and face off against Toluca on September 15.
The Galaxy, 13th in the Western Conference with 29 points from 25 games, take on MLS newcomers St Louis City at home at Dignity Health Sports Park on September 10.
